Southwest Gas Powers Payment Processing With BancTec Solutions

BancTec, a global provider of advanced, high volume document and payment processing solutions, has built on its longstanding relationship with Southwest Gas Corporation by providing the fast-growing natural gas distributor with a new payment processing solution that has significantly improved performance, reliability and cost-effectiveness. Southwest Gas serves approximately 1.8 million commercial and residential customers in Arizona, Nevada and California.

Southwest Gas implemented BancTec’s PayCourier® and PayCourier® Archive payment processing and archival solutions. The web-accessible PayCourier Archive product also better positions Southwest Gas for future image exchange and check truncation initiatives. The project also features the Auto Assist and Rope-and-Zone technology resident in the PayCourier product. Rope-and-Zone helps reduce exception processing for content validation, providing significant savings in labor and time, and reducing errors.

In addition, two of BancTec’s X-SeriesTM transports were installed as the hardware infrastructure for the payment processing system. The transports include BancTec’s patented TurboTimeTM technology, featuring disposable “smart” cards that will enable Southwest Gas to meet occasional peak requirements by increasing standard system speed up to 50 percent and eliminating the need to overbuy processing capacity.
